Youth Participation Activities

What Are Youth Participation Activities?

Youth Participation Activities are projects created by young people, for young people, designed to help young people speak up, take action, and get involved in shaping their communities and the world around them.
They’re not political campaigns or school debates, they’re creative, youth-led actions that amplify your voice and give you the tools to create real change in your community, locally or nationally.

You might:

  • Organise a local campaign around a social or environmental issue
  • Host a debate or discussion on youth rights or wellbeing
  • Build a youth-led action group or event to spark conversation
  • Collaborate with decision-makers to influence policies affecting young people

The goal is to give young people the space, skills, and support to shape society, using methods that are creative, inclusive, and based on non-formal education.

Who can take part?

You can apply if:

  • You’re aged 13-30 (projects must be youth-led)
  • You want to be part of a group that speaks up, takes action, and gets things moving
  • You have an idea or just a strong feeling about something that needs to change

No experience needed. You’ll be supported by a youth organisation or facilitator who helps shape your ideas into a real, funded project.

What is covered in Youth Participation Activities?

Youth Participation Activities are funded through Erasmus+, so most costs are covered, including:

  • Venue rental and logistics
  • Materials and supplies
  • Expert support, facilitators, or guest speakers
  • Media production, visibility, and documentation
  • Travel & accommodation (for national or international collaboration)

You might be asked to:

  • Co-design the budget with the support of your organisation
  • Contribute time and ideas

Inclusion support is available for groups facing specific challenges.

What Will You Learn?

By joining or leading a Youth Participation Activity, you will:

  • Build leadership, teamwork, and public engagement skills
  • Learn how to plan, budget, and run your own project
  • Understand your rights, and how young people can influence change
  • Gain visibility for your cause or message
  • Receive a Youthpass Certificate, recognising your learning and involvement

These types of projects take more time and planning than a short trip; so they’re best for young people who are ready to commit, show up, and drive something meaningful forward.

Why Join Youth Participation Activities?

  • Make your voice heard on the issues that matter to you
  • Work with other young people to make a real impact
  • Turn frustration or ideas into action
  • Build connections with organisations, media, and decision-makers
  • Use creativity to inspire your community

How to Take Part

You can:

  • Apply as a group (with support from an organisation)
  • Join an existing youth group working on participation projects
  • Follow Erasmus+ organisations on Instagram or Facebook, they often post open calls
  • Get guidance from Erasmus.mt or @ProjektaMalta to develop your own idea

When Do Youth Participation Activities Happen?

All year round. Projects are flexible and shaped around your timeline and idea. They can last a few weeks or several months.

Powered by young people

Youth Participation Activities are co-funded by the European Commission and built to ensure young people have a seat at the table, and the tools to use it.
